The Green Team Helping Hands: My Journey to Being a Guest On The Jennifer Hudson Show by Ashley Benton

Here’s my extraordinary story of how I got on The Jennifer Hudson Show and experienced a dream come true.
One night as I was lying on my couch, I decided to take a leap of faith and write to The Jennifer Hudson Show about my nonprofit, The Green Team Helping Hands, which feeds the homeless. I watch the show every day, and I thought, why not? I had no idea that I would get a call back, yet I believed in the power of possibility.
In the next day or two, I received a call from the producers of The JHud show, and I was absolutely elated! I was nervous, yet I felt seen and heard. They loved my story and wanted me to share it on the show! What an incredible experience I had in California! The show flew me out, put me in a luxurious hotel room and treated me like a VIP! They sent a car to pick me up from the airport, to and from the show, and back to the airport. Each day, I had a per diem to enjoy delicious meals at the hotel, and when I arrived at the studio, I had my very own dressing room with my name on the door! It was truly a surreal experience!
I then went to hair and makeup, feeling like a celebrity. Then, the moment of truth arrived! I was just steps away from meeting the incomparable Jennifer Hudson! At that moment, she introduced me to the world, and I walked out to a live, cheering studio audience! When I laid eyes on Jennifer Hudson, I knew that I had reached new heights!
As I walked on set, she hugged me so tightly, and as she began to interview me, I felt her warmth and kindness. I shared my story of starting The Green Team Helping Hands and how we have fed over 300,000 meals. At the end of my segment, I was blown away by a surprise proclamation from the mayor of my city, declaring January 28 The Green Team Helping Hands Day. I will always remember the feeling of pride and validation that I felt in that moment. I knew that my work had made a difference, and I was grateful for the opportunity to share it with the world.
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Jennifer Hudson for believing in me and my nonprofit, and to the entire team at the JHud show for their kindness and support. This experience has left an indelible mark on my life, and I will forever be grateful!
