National Nurses Month: 3 Ways to Honor Health-Care Workers During the Coronavirus Pandemic Make a Difference
This May, our nation is proud to recognize National Nurses Month during the 2020 commemoration of the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. We owe our sincerest and most heartfelt thanks to our nation’s registered nurses, nurse practitioners (NPs) and all advanced practice registered nurses for their unwavering commitment to keeping patients and communities safe during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Across all health-care settings – from primary to specialty and acute care – nurses and NPs ensure patients receive the high-quality care they deserve. To show our appreciation for the sacrifices all health-care providers are making to protect our health, it’s especially important to follow federal and state guidelines that will help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
During National Nurses Month, please take a moment to thank the nurses, NPs and other health-care professionals in your life and do your part by:
- Staying home if you are sick or state guidelines require you to do so. Avoid leaving your house unless you need to get groceries, travel to an essential job or seek medical care.
- Washing your hands. Be sure to wash your hands for 20 seconds – as often as possible. This will ensure that you kill any strains of the virus that you may have come in contact with.
- Wearing a face covering. If you leave your house, including to exercise outdoors or to go to work, for a health-care visit or to do your grocery shopping, wear a face mask or face covering to help stop the spread of the virus.
Honor the sacrifices of our health-care professionals by doing your part.
