Facebook Fiction: How Social Media Creates a False Sense of Reality Tech Relationships
Social media can be a great thing. I personally love looking at my friend's family photos, especially babies. I love seeing what I was doing a year ago, or five. I see old pictures of my daughter, from her first day on skates to school parties. That aspect of social media is great. Of course, like most everyone my age, I constantly consider removing Facebook or Instagram from my life. Why?
- I see people post on social media, making it seem like their life is so great, when it's hanging on by a thread.
- It shows people that they can be the super mom if they were more like this friend or that friend.
- It shows that you can have this amazing marriage, when in reality, you spend more time trying to show people how great your relationship is than it actually is.
It's hard to grasp what is "real" and what is "fake" when it comes to social media. All my daughter asks is when she can get an Instagram or Snapchat account. I want her to live blissfully unaware of the constant comparison that I have found myself to be thrust into.
