Parents & Caregivers: Feeling Like an Outsider? Don’t! Try These 4 Tips! Fatherhood
Children want to feel needed and included – and so do adults. When parents or nannies are setting up play dates with one another it can be tough to not feel included. Here’s how you can get yourself and your child noticed:
- Introduce yourself to the other parents. It seems so basic, but a simple “Hi, how are you?” can lead to more conversation. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.
- Plan a play date at the local park. Invite all of the children and parents from the class to join you and your child. It will give you a chance to get to know the children your child plays with and their parents.
- Host an event at your house. A birthday party, holiday party with games and crafts or a random theme party “just because” (example a gardening party, cooking party, unicorn party or cars party). Show off your creativity and get to know the children so they want you and your child to attend their functions.
- Attend library or community or youth sporting events with your child. And they’re usually free!
It’s important to get to know who your children are friends with and who their parents are. Follow these tips to build trust and you’ll be sure to become included with the rest of the group.
