The age old and often relied upon ‘time-out’ can be a quick fix. Although it offers immediate relief for you as a parent, many experts have challenged its usefulness in shaping more desired behavior.
Instead, try to replace the ‘time out’ with something more creative that gives rather than takes away. Having the guilty party choose from various age-appropriate acts of kindness they can complete for the person they hurt.
