This Counting & Sorting Money Activity Helps Kids Learn About Money & Math Activities Fun With Dad

Reinforcing and learning skills at home will help your preschooler or kindergartener with his confidence in the classroom. This fun activity introduces kids to the concept of counting and sorting money. Plus, it's fun to make the piggies together, too. 

You'll need:

• construction paper or cardstock
• markers
• scissors
• laminating machine and laminating paper or self-adhesive laminating sheets (optional)
• play money or real money

Here's how you make it:

1. Trace a large pig shape on your paper. If you can't free-hand it, find a template online or from a coloring book. 
2. Cut out the shape. 
3. Add features with your marker.
4. Write, "Put __ pennies in this piggy bank," "Put __ nickels in this piggy bank," and so on, on each pig. 
5. If you want the pigs to last longer, laminate using laminating paper and a laminating machine or self-adhesive laminating sheets. 

Here's how to play:

• Put the play or real money in a basket or tray. 
• Have your child sort the money by reading (or read it to them) what each piggy bank is asking for. 
• Let your child count out the proper amount of money and place it on the right piggy bank. 
• Show them subtraction and addition using each piggy bank as a visual aid.
