While dyslexia is usually thought of as a reading problem, it can affect the way a child speaks and understands. It is important to watch for warning signs with your preschooler, as they could be an indication of later reading problems. Young children misspeak all the time. It’s part of the learning process! But a child at risk for reading difficulties often makes these mistakes more often than others his or her age:
- Mispronouncing words.
- Difficulty calling objects by the right name.
- Misunderstanding spoken directions.
- Struggling with rhyming games.
If you have any concerns, talk to your child's doctor.
