Teething is a difficult time for babies and parents alike. How can you help your baby?
First, what NOT to do:
- Avoid teething medications containing benzocaine. In rare but serious instances, this medication can cause a dangerous blood disorder called methemoglobinemia, where the body cannot get enough oxygen. It also can cause numbing in the throat, which can lead to choking.
Better options include:
- refrigerated teething rings
- rubbing the child’s gums with a clean finger
It's a difficult time, but soon those teeth will make their appearance for that photo op!
