Summertime presents the challenge of balancing fun with academics. Kids want to play, play, play while parents often fear the "summer slide" of kids losing some of the important skills and lessons they have learned in school. To practice letters, make it fun for kids and they won't even know they're learning. Try this fun activity:

  • Writing the alphabet outside with sidewalk chalk.
  • Have your child trace over the letters while saying the alphabet.
  • As an added bonus, work on spelling out words by jumping from letter to letter.

Letting your child choose the words he or she wants to spell out often increases their interest and enjoyment of this great activity!
