Gypsy Moths: How to Get Rid of These Damaging Pests! Home

The gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar, is one of North America's most devastating forest pests. Gypsy moths cause damage to trees and shrubs, kill up to a million acres of forest each year and need to be exterminated when possible.

  • Physical removal of the nests in the spring (shown here) is recommended.
  • Place the nests into soapy water to destroy them.
  • You also can Install sticky tapes or sticky tree wraps at the base of trees to catch the worms on their way up or down the trees. While very effective, you must stay on top of it and remove "full' sticky traps and replace regularly.
