DIY Bookmarks Encourage a Love of Reading in Kids & Makes a Great Teacher Gift! Activities DIY

Our school is very focused on literacy and reading, and my boys love books. To celebrate their love of books, we made homemade bookmarks from sparkly scrapbook paper. We used leftover yarn and embroidery thread to make the tassels. The boys gave them to their teachers as an economical gift from the heart. My oldest said, "These are easy and teachers love reading!" You can make homemade bookmarks out of:

  • construction paper
  • felt
  • ribbon
  • yarn
  • cardstock
  • scrapbook paper
  • scraps of wallpaper

Anything, really! Get creative! I was thrilled to discover they loved making them so much they decided to make some for their own books. I loved seeing their excitement to make them and using them while they read. A great way to encourage a love of books!
