Shine Your Light Even When the Darkness Is Intense: Making the World Better One Victory at a Time Become the Fire

I feel guilty admitting it, but 2020 was an amazing year for me. I grew so much spiritually, mentally and emotionally. My home life, work life and parenting life have all significantly improved. I am in a really good place, and yet, I have had a difficult time celebrating my wins.

As things continue to get better for me, they only seem to be getting worse for the rest of the world. It makes my victories feel bittersweet. Can I really celebrate when so many are suffering? It doesn’t feel right.

I work for a nonprofit whose mission is to help other nonprofits succeed. Recently, I was reminded why I loved my job so much and became motivated to work with my team to make our services even better. The idea of helping others and reaching more people has filled me with so much uncontainable joy.

And maybe, that’s what it is all about. Using small victories to make the world a better place little by little. Every day that I get to bring more light into the world is a good day, no matter what else is happening.

Everything seems so bleak right now, but that just means we need love, joy, compassion and teamwork now more than ever. Do not dim your light because others are sitting in darkness. Shine it as brightly as you can so that it may reach them and help them find theirs.
