Decoding Summer Camp Lingo: What This Mom Has Uncovered From Her Teen! Parenting Activities Teens

Our daughter has been attending summer camps since the third grade. Our soon-to-be teenager is still enjoying all that camp has to offer. She’s becoming an uber-camper, attending three this year and hoping to add a forth next summer. After arriving home from a week-long adventure in the woods, it’s as if she has learned a new foreign language. After a few conversations, I’ve learned to crack the camper code. Here’s just a sample:

  • FOB: feet on bunk (quiet time)
  • Flush-n-Brush: a quick “after breakfast” trip to the cabin
  • Pony Express: camper mail delivered by horseback
  • Lost-n-Found Fashion Show: counselors wear all the "found" items on the last day of camp
  • Blobber: floating inflatable bounce pad in the lake
  • Nature’s Hot Tub: dig hole, cover with a tarp and water; add large rocks that were in the sun

Growing up, what silly terms or traditions did your camp use? List them in the comments.
