Scavenger Hunt for Kids: How to Have a Safe & Fun Scavenger Hunt With Your Family Activities

I’ve always liked scavenger hunts. When I was a kid, many of them were unsupervised as we went rushing around to beat a time limit. Crossing busy streets and talking to strangers wasn't always the safest way to doing it. In order to solve this these days, I make my list of "hard-to-find items" ahead of time. Each child gets their list and has two or three weeks to complete it. They can get help from their family, neighbors or friends. My list includes things like:

  • wig
  • napkin from a fast food restaurant
  • a silly selfie taken at 2:15 p.m.
  • a page ripped out of a magazine
  • a used toothbrush

The day of the get-together we add a few more items in case of a tie:

  • Do you have any buttons on your clothes?
  • Do you have a logo or saying on your shirt?

The bonus is that the entertainment is provided by the children as they check off all the things on the list. We are always surprised at how creative they are and how much they enjoy this activity!
