With spring just around the corner, it’s time to find some new adventures for the family that won’t break the bank. One of our favorite activities is to find Rails-to-Trails and get rolling on our bikes. Over the years, over 1,200 trails nationwide have opened using former railways. Whether you are a mountain biker, hiker, dog walker, runner or riding horseback, Rails-to-Trails are fairly flat terrain and very scenic.

Our favorite is in Northampton, Mass., which offers beautiful bridges and a local 50’s diner on route. While visiting Western Mass., stop at Stony Brook trail, winding along a stream at Mount Holyoke, the oldest women’s college in the world. In the winter you can cross-country ski or ride snowmobile on many of the trails.

Head over to TrailLink.com and you’ll learn about hundreds of family and wheelchair-friendly trails to cycle. Several even have picnic areas, ice cream stands and nearby campgrounds to stay at.

Where is your favorite trail to explore?
