Meal Prep Is a Means of Survival for a Busy Family: 3 Tips to Get You Going Motherhood

With February here, some of us are already bummed because our healthy resolutions have flown out the window with piano lessons, baseball practice and Boy Scouts! It's hard for a family to eat healthy when they are constantly on the go. However, the old saying is true, "If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail." Here are some meal-planning tips to help:

  • At the beginning of each week make a menu. This doesn't have to be the Bible, it can be flexible. But plan out your proteins and some sides.
  • Set aside some time in the kitchen on the weekend and cook away! In two hours you can use your stovetop, oven and pressure cooker to make hard-boiled eggs, roasted chicken, ground beef and baked veggies, all to cool and store to be used throughout the week.
  • Did you know you can "bake" potatoes in your slow cooker to be used throughout the week? Not only does this save you time at the stove during the week, it saves you money from eating out because it's too late to cook, and you clean your kitchen less because you did the bulk of your cooking in a few hours on one day.

Give it a try and see if it doesn't help you stick to your resolutions throughout the year, not just through the first month!

So smart, Katie Fulton . I wish I were better at this. I feel like Iā€™m always scrambling (not just eggs)! Thank you for the helpful ideas! šŸ˜€

Me, too. The only time I meal prepped was when Katie Smith lived at home. It was so helpful. Need to get motivated and just do it. Katie Fulton

I started meal planning this year too! What a difference! My best investment was a magnetic planner for the fridge so we can see it too. Thanks for sharing Katie Smith

This would make the dinner hour healthier and less of a guessing game. Plus, each kid can pick a night to be "head chef", help plan the meal, cook, clean and serve.
