In a discussion with Elisa All Schmitz on Facebook about sharing recipes from her trip to Thailand, I remembered the cookie exchange parties I used to host way back like 15 years ago. We had remodeled our house adding a kitchen with a sitting area that was 700-plus square feet. It wasn’t long after finishing it that friends who stopped by to see the finished product started saying how I should have cooking classes. So I did.
There were 10 to 12 of us and we would have a local chef come to my house. They would charge approximately $50 each and do a full-course meal or once we learned side dishes. Then I had a cookie exchange party where we cooked our goodies at my house.
I made a big pot of chicken and noodles so we had something to eat besides cookie dough. It was an all-day event, lots of laughing, sharing of traditions and seeing how each other cooked. Unfortunately for our families most goodies were consumed as they came out of the oven, so there was little to take home. Of course, you don’t have to have a 700-square foot kitchen and invite 15 people to make this a success – a small kitchen and 5 to 6 friends can be just as fun. In fact, I’m thinking it’s time to have one this year.
