Many parents are time-poor and trying to manage many roles. There are benefits of getting your children to help with housework. It teaches:

  • planning
  • independence
  • essential life skills
  • teamwork
  • commitment
  • increases self-confidence

It takes time and patience, but it can make your life easier in the long run. Start is as early as possible so it's cemented by their teens. Even toddlers can help with putting clothes away or "sweep" with a smaller brush when you are. Toddlers love to mimic. Make the most of it!

With school-aged children, turn chores into games, such as building the tallest tower of folded clothes, sing "wash the dishes, dry the dishes, turn the dishes over" when folding laundry. Be creative! Reward children with praise and hugs for their effort.
