Take a Kids' Tech Break: An Accidental Experiment in Social Media

Over summer break, my oldest son tried out the Lifeproof case for his iPhone. The case failed and the first day of vacation, his phone died. What happened next totally surprised us. Instead of checking sports scores and texting with friends, he spent this newfound time playing tag with his sister, chasing iguanas with his brother and talking to us at dinner. At the end, he admitted it was nice to have a break from chatting with friends.

Since being back we've started no "tech times." We brought out board games and cards. The kids love it and have even started playing tag and hide-and-seek!
