Neighborhood Newsletters: A Fun & Educational Way to Keep Kids Busy During Spring & Summer Break

Kids on spring break? Help them start a neighborhood newsletter! It’s a great (and educational) way to keep them busy. They will earn some money and learn about starting a business. Here’s how to get started:

  • Have kids ask around for story ideas. Are the neighbors on sport’s teams? Having a baby?
  • Sell ads. Charge a small amount for an ad in the paper. The kids in our neighborhood that advertised their cleaning business and babysitting got jobs!
  • Figure out how many stories to write. Decide how many pages that will actually fill.
  • Perk up your page with art. Leave room for drawings or logos.
  • Have the kids add their own poetry or small stories.
  • Make copies. Make a small amount at first, you can always print more later.
  • Sell or hand out the newsletter to the neighborhood.

Bet your kids will have a steady customers!
