Way to Go, Mother Goose: 3 Ways Nursery Rhymes Help Baby's Language & Cognitive Skills

Introducing your child to nursery rhymes or whimsical books, like the Iza Trapani series, is priceless! The sing-song rhythmical patterns are more than fun, they actually help improve your child’s language and cognitive skills. Here are three ways they can help build your child's vocabulary and language skills:

  1. Hearing the rhythm and rhyme patterns improves the awareness of the sounds and syllables that make up words.
  2. As you read, your graceful, flowing speech helps your child develop memorization of patterns.
  3. The author’s clever use of word choice enriches vocabulary, while introducing the components of storytelling.

That Mother Goose, she knows what she’s doing!

Such a wonderful suggestion, Mindy Hudon, M.S., CCC-SLP . My fave books to read to my kids were Mother Goose, Dr. Seuss, Goodnight Moon, The Kissing Hand ... I could go on and on. There's nothing so special as reading to and then later, reading with your children!
