As parents, we want the best for our kids. We want them to be happy, safe and successful. Parental support matters, but studies suggest that helicopter parenting may be doing great harm. In the book, "How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success" by Julie Lythcott-Haims, the author shares how overbearing parents may be unknowingly creating psychological consequences for their kids by the time they reach college. There has been an increase of mental health issues on college campuses. It was found that freshmen with helicopter parents were:
- reluctant to new ideas
- reluctant to new activities
- vulnerable
- anxious
- self-conscious
