Potty training can be challenging for kids with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Most children with ASD learn to urinate and have bowel movements in the toilet later than other children. Each child with an ASD is different. Knowing about these differences can help you come up with different ways to meet your child’s needs. 

• Children with ASD have trouble understanding and using language. Do not expect a child with autism to ask to use the toilet, but instead ask them to follow you.
• Following the "Tell, Show, Try, Do" method helps to ease the urgency to achieve something quick and, instead, focus.
