Nursing Pain, New Mom? Here's Why Latch Is Key When Breastfeeding Breastfeeding
Soreness of the breasts is a common reason to stop breastfeeding. It’s actually easier to prevent nipple soreness than to treat it. One of the most important things you can do is make sure your baby has a proper latch. If you experience pain:
- Unlatch the baby by breaking suction inserting your finger in the corner of your baby’s mouth between the gums.
- Also, don’t limit the time your baby eats. This can keep the milk ducts from emptying completely and lead to swelling and pain.
- Observe your baby’s feeding cues and stop when Baby is satisfied.
