Small Gestures Can Make a Big Impact On Mental Well-being (It Matters) Mental Health Women's Health Mindfulness
Over the years I've noticed that my most depressive moods are usually centralized around my time of the month. It always put a strain on my relationships because it is a time when my mind is filled with the impenetrable darkness of hopelessness, anger and despair.
While it has made my husband's life difficult, most certainly, over the years he has taken the time to understand me and my moods. He has learned that while this is something that affects me, it is not me. It is an illness, not a personality trait.
One night I was very upset and I told him so. I have legitimate reason to be so but during this time everything always gets blown out of proportion. A drop of water becomes a tsunami.
The next morning I did not get out of bed. Since I work from home and use a laptop I don't really need to. When my husband left for work I was still curled up. I think he knew I would likely just stay there and continue to be miserable. So an hour later he came back home with a hot breakfast for me, dragged me out of bed and made me my morning tea.
My husband shows his love through food. He loves cooking and sharing meals with others. Food is love to him. He didn't really have time to come back home and do this, but he did. With one small gesture he saved my entire day. With one small gesture he reminded me I was loved and appreciated and not alone, even if he can't always be with me physically.
Small gestures can have such a great impact.
For me, it was my husband taking time out of his busy day to make sure I ate. Perhaps, for another, it will be stopping on the street to help someone who is lost. A donation to a charitable cause. A phone call. Or maybe even just a genuine smile. Small gestures make it possible for people to get through their day. Small gestures save lives.
Don't stop yourself from doing things for others because you feel like it's not much or enough. It is so much more than you know.
