Want those ravishing ruby red lips that mark every star-studded event from the Golden Globes to Fashion Week? I have coveted this look, and am now discovering the magic that makes red lipstick work.

First, you need flake-free and well-moisturized lips. You can exfoliate easily by brushing your lips lightly with your toothbrush.

Next, apply a fine layer of balm or lip primer.

Outline your lip line and fill in with a creamy lip liner. If you don’t have an exact match to the lipstick, find a liner that is close to the natural color of your lips.

Finally, apply the red lipstick. Gorgeous!
