Going to the Dentist After Coronavirus Shutdown: A Dentist Shares Some Things We Can Expect Dental Health

As dentists prepare to reopen after coronavirus (COVID-19) shutdowns, many steps are being taken to ensure safety for patients and staff. Here's what patients need to know:

Pre-Appointment Screening Process

Patients will be pre-screened for symptoms of COVID-19 before the appointment with the following questions:

  • Fever?
  • Cough?
  • Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing?
  • Chills?
  • Muscle pain?
  • Sore throat?
  • New loss of taste or smell?

In-Office Patient Registration Procedures

To reduce crowding in waiting rooms, patients may be asked to remain outside (stay in their vehicles) until they are called into the office for their appointment

Reception Area Preparation

Waiting room strategies may include:

Chairside Checklist

These procedures may be in place for dentists and staff to ensure patient’s room is cleaned and disinfected.

Staff Protection Strategies

These changes may include in-office clothing, personal protective equipment and a COVID-19 daily screening log for office staff and associates to use before entering the practice.
