Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease caused by heightened immunity – the person’s immune system overreacts and damages its own tissues. The disease can affect almost any body organ. In the U.S., sarcoidosis usually targets the lung and lymph nodes, but it can also affect the:

  • skin
  • eyes
  • liver
  • salivary glands
  • sinuses
  • kidneys
  • heart
  • muscles
  • bones
  • brain
  • nervous system

Often, the disease is diagnosed after a routine chest X-ray shows an abnormality. Learn more about the disease by visiting StopSarcoidosis.org.
