Lyme Disease: What You Need to Know (& Brad Paisley’s Good Advice)! by Ali Mathis
Tick season is in full swing. Here are a few things you need to know to keep your family safe!
- Make sure you check your kids and pets for ticks – which are tiny arachnids-like spiders – after being outside.
- Ticks like to hide in dark places, so make sure to check belly buttons, behind ears and in between toes.
- If you find a tick, remove it promptly with tweezers and clean the skin.
- Call your doctor immediately if you notice a "bulls-eye" rash on the skin after a tick bite. This is a sign of Lyme disease, which requires a strong course of antibiotics. Other possible symptoms include fatigue, headache and muscle and joint pain.
Don’t let ticks keep you from enjoying the outdoors, just remember country singer Brad Paisley's lyrics and say them often to you kids: "I'd like to check you for ticks."
