Want to Help Your Kids Develop Resilience? Here are 4 Ways to Start!

We all want our kids to grow up learning how to be resilient, to rise above challenges, with optimism and confidence. But how can we as parents help? The ability to provide connection helps our kids know they will be OK despite the challenging time. And, sometimes, listening is exactly the connection they are looking for. When listening:

  • Remove the distractions. Put down what you are doing and be present.
  • Notice the words. What is being said, and not said.
  • Learn what is important. What is the bigger picture? What might be beneath the surface?
  • Listen with empathy and for feelings. Connect with what you are hearing and feeling.

Most of the time, our kids just need to know we are available. With a good sounding board, they will likely figure things out on their own!
