Easy Slow-Cooker Hamburger Steaks Recipe With Creamy Gravy (7 Ingredients) High Protein Recipes Slow Cooker Beef Low Sugar Recipes Budget Recipes Dinner
Ground beef fills two freezers in my garage. So needless to say I am always looking for new ground beef recipes. In 2024, my Amish hamburger steak bake recipe was the most viewed recipe and one of the most delicious, so trying another hamburger steak recipe was a no-brainer. This easy slow-cooker hamburger steak recipe with creamy gravy was so easy and tasty – and got a thumbs-up from my husband.
You only need a short list of ingredients to make this ground beef slow-cooker recipe. Here is what you'll need from the fridge and pantry to try this easy high-protein recipe tonight: ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, a packet of dry onion soup mix, flour, vegetable oil, a can of cream of chicken soup and an optional onion. (I love onion, so that is a healthy ingredient I add to any recipe I can! Check out the health benefits of onion.)
Serve the tender ground beef hamburger steaks and creamy gravy over noodles, rice, pasta, potatoes or your favorite grain. I served the beef patties and gravy over Wendish noodles with a salad and cheese peas as side dishes. This was a high-protein, comfort food dinner that will be added to my recipe binder.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 4 to 5 hours
Total Time: 4 hours and 10 minutes to 5 hours and 10 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (I used Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs)
- 1/8 cup milk (I used evaporated milk)
- 1 ounce (1 packet) dry onion soup mix, divided (I used beefy onion soup mix)
- 1/8 cup flour
- 1 onion, sliced or chopped (optional)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 10.5 ounces (1 can) cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 - 3/4 cup milk
Here's how to make it:
- Put the ground beef, breadcrumbs, 1/8 cup milk and half of the dry onion soup mix into a mixing bowl. Season with salt and black pepper, if desired. (I added black pepper but no additional salt.)
- Mix well to combine and shape into four patties.
- Lightly dust the patties with flour. Heat the oil in a skillet over high heat and cook the patties until browned on both sides, about 1 to 2 minutes per side. (The patties will not be cooked through at this point.)
- If using the onion, place it on the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Put the remaining half of the dry onion soup mix, cream of chicken soup and milk into a mixing bowl. Season with salt and pepper, if desired. (I added black pepper but no additional salt. Start with a 1/2 cup of milk and see if you need/want to add more later. You could use cream of mushroom soup instead of chicken.)
- Stir well to combine.
- Put the patties on top of the onions.
- Pour the sauce over the patties, spreading to cover.
- Cover the slow cooker.
- Cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or until the patties are cooked through. (Cooking time will vary because all slow cookers are different. You may need to add a bit more milk if the gravy thickens up too much.)
- Serve the patties and gravy over noodles, rice, potatoes or your favorite grain. This recipe could easily be doubled. Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.
