This is the recipe that I didn't know was a recipe. My mom and I were talking about how good the summer corn on the cob is right now, and she told me how she cooks it. She uses the microwave. I shared how I cook corn on the cob, and she said, "I've never heard of that way to cook corn. Going to try it." So I thought maybe everyone else would like to try this cooking method for corn on the cob, too.

For me, this is the easiest and best way to cook corn in the cob in the house (I do like to grill corn outside, too). Unlike boiling it in water, the corn has just enough water in the skillet to keep it crisp. Another reason I love this method is that you can let the corn sit in the hot water while you finish up dinner. The sweet corn stays hot so you don't have to worry about reheating it.

To make this simple skillet corn on the cob you need only one ingredient: corn on the cob. The corn cooks in the skillet in just a bit of water (you do not cover it) until crisp, sweet and delicious. If corn is fresh and in season, I don't put salt or butter on it. Sweet corn, in my opinion, is perfect with nothing added on it.

Serve the vegetable as a side dish with your favorite dinners. And if you want to slather it with butter and sprinkle it with salt, go for it!

• The corn that's been cooked with turn a darker yellow color, so you'll know what sides need more time in the water.

• You can cook the corn on the cob whole, or cut into smaller pieces. Smaller corn on the cob is easier for kids to eat.

• Tongs is the easier way to turn the corn as it cooks.

• The longer you cook the corn, the more tender it gets. I like mine crisp, so I cook it about five minutes.

Here's how to make it: 

1. Put the cleaned corn into a skillet with just enough water to cover the bottom (about 1/4 inch).
2. Bring the water to a gentle simmer and start cooking the corn.
3. Turn the corn often until it reaches your desired crispness, adding more water, if needed.
