Crispy Caramelized Onion Glazed Baked Chicken Recipe (3 Ingredients) Chicken Recipes Dinner
Crispy baked chicken thighs are one of my favorite meals. There are so many different ways to cook them using so many different ingredients. Jam, jelly and preserves is a common ingredient I use in my baked chicken recipes. My four-ingredient baked french chicken uses apricot preserves, my apple horseradish glazed chicken uses apple-horseradish jam, my strawberry-glazed chicken uses strawberry jam and my peach garlic baked chicken uses peach preserves. Here's a new chicken recipe to add to that list: caramelized onion glazed chicken. This one uses caramelized onion jam, which was amazing!
I had originally bought this caramelized onion jam to use on a charcuterie board with toasted bread and crackers. One taste let me know that it needed to be baked onto chicken. To make this chicken recipe you only need chicken pieces (I used bone-in chicken thighs), caramelized onion jam, salt and pepper, and olive oil. The chicken bakes up in less than an hour.
Serve this sweet, tangy, juicy, crispy chicken for dinner with your favorite side dishes. Check out the links below to explore all the caramelized onion jams available.

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 40 to 50 minutes
Total Time: 50 to 55 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 4 - 6 bone-on chicken pieces (I used thighs)
- caramelized onion jam (about 1 tablespoon per piece of chicken)
- olive oil
Recipe Notes
- There are many brands of caramelized onion jam on the market. Use your favorite! I bought mine at Costco.
- Put the desired amount of jam into a small bowl instead of taking it directly from the jar. This will keep you from contaminating the jam and you'll be able to use the leftovers in other ways.
- You could remove the skin from the chicken before baking to reduce fat.
- For some color, sprinkle with parsley flakes.
- Store any leftover chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
Here's how to make it:
- Put the chicken into a baking dish. Season both sides with salt and pepper and drizzle with a little olive oil.
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 40 minutes, or until chicken is almost cooked through and skin is crispy. Top each piece with about 1 tablespoon of jam and spread to coat.
- Continue baking until chicken is cooked through (165 degrees F internal temperature).
- Serve with desired side dishes.
