Easy Honey Fried Walleye Fillets Recipe Is What Fish Fry Dreams Are Made Of Seafood Dinner

CHARD Products

Walleye is a popular freshwater whitefish in the perch family. Walleye are native to Canada, the Great Lakes, the Missouri River basin and the upper Mississippi River basin, according to the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). Walleye can be cooked any way other whitefish can, but we're partial to this crisp and moist honey fried walleye recipe.

For this fried fish recipe you'll need walleye fillets, honey, an egg, crushed crackers, flour, salt, black pepper and ground cayenne pepper. The fish are first dipped into the honey and egg, then into the seasoned flour and crushed cracker mixture. Then you fry the fish until cooked through and golden brown (it takes just a few minutes).

Serve these fried fish fillets for a delicious seafood dinner with coleslaw, hushpuppies, tartar sauce or your favorite side dishes. We hope you agree that this crispy honey fried walleye recipe is what fish fry dreams are made of!

Cook Time: 6 minutes
Total Time: 16 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 10 walleye fillets, dried completely with a paper towel
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 2 cups coarsely crushed crackers
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red cayenne pepper
  • Cooking oil for frying, such as canola or peanut oil

Here's how to make it:

  1. Heat canola or peanut oil in a large deep skillet or deep fryer until about 350 to 375 degrees F.
  2. Whisk together the honey and egg. Add the walleye fillets and mix to coat. In a bowl, stir together the crushed cracker crumbs, flour, salt, pepper and cayenne. Apply liberally to the fish fillets, pressing so they adhere to the fish.
  3. Fry the fish in hot oil for abut 6 minutes or until cooked through and golden brown.
