Grilled Asian-Inspired Flat Iron Steak Recipe: It's Steak Night Beef Grilling Dinner

Flat iron steak is an often overlooked cut of beef. If you like flank steak, hanger steak or skirt steak, you need to give flat iron steak a try. This flat iron steak recipe is marinated in an Asian-inspired marinade and then quickly grilled. This steak recipe has an awesome flavor!

I marinated my steak for about six hours, turning it over every so often. If you want to cook two steaks, simply double the marinade ingredients. Be sure to slice this steak against the grain when serving. Serve with your favorite side dishes. It would be delicious sliced and served on a bed of fried rice.

Cuisine: Asian / American
Prep Time: 4 hours to marinate
Cook Time: 10 minutes (approximately)
Total Time: 4 hours and 10 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 flat iron steak (about 1 pound)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (I used low-sodium soy sauce)
  • 1/4 cup sherry cooking wine
  • 1/8 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • crushed red pepper flakes, to taste

Here's how to make it:

  1. Combine the soy sauce, sherry, honey, sesame oil, garlic, ginger and crushed red pepper flakes in a shallow dish or plastic zipper bag.
  2. Add the steak and marinate at least 4 hours.
  3. When ready to cook, remove from the marinade. Heat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill the steak, flipping a few times, until cooked to desired doneness.
