Bravas Sauce Recipe: This Salsa Brava Recipe Has So Many Uses Sauces/Condiments

Patatas bravas, meaning "spicy potatoes," is a popular dish from Spain. It's fried potatoes drizzled with a spicy sauce. The sauce, bravas sauce (aka salsa brava), complements the potatoes perfectly. But this Spanish sauce can be used in so many other ways!

Made with pantry ingredients, this easy bravas sauce can be used on chicken, fish, sandwiches, vegetables (it's wonderful over cabbage) and even a dip for french fries. Save the discarded garlic to use in homemade salad dressings.

Cuisine: Spanish
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: Makes about 1 1/4 cups

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon crushed pepper flakes (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar

Here's how to make it:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook until it's golden, about 2 minutes. Discard the garlic.
  2. Reduce the heat to low. Add the tomato paste, paprika, crushed red pepper flakes and cornstarch. While whisking, add in the vegetable broth and vinegar. Whisk until smooth and creamy. Store in an airtight container.
