Bananas Foster Recipe: A Famous New Orleans Dessert With a Little Drama Desserts Holidays Fruit Gluten-free

30Seconds Food

Bananas foster is a classic dessert. The famous bananas foster dessert recipe was invented at Brennan's restaurant in New Orleans. The iconic dessert is not only popular because it's sweet and absolutely delicious, but also because, at the restaurant, it is flamed tableside. You can skip the flames at home, but if you want the drama, do it! Just be careful and always tilt the pan away from you when igniting.

To make this gluten-free bananas foster recipe, melt the butter and add the bananas. They cook about two minutes before adding brown sugar, vanilla and cinnamon. That cooks for a couple minutes, and you're done (if you don't want to flame the dessert). Top hot bowls of the bananas foster with scoops of vanilla ice cream.

Bananas foster is a fun dessert to serve any time, but especially during the Mardi Gras season. Your guests are going to love it!

Recipe Notes

  • If you want to flame the dessert, add 1 ounce of whiskey, rum or bourbon when you add the final ingredients. Tilt the pan away from you (carefully!) to ignite. Let the alcohol burn off.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled to serve four.

Here's how to make it:

  • Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the bananas and cook, stirring, for about 2 minutes.
  • Reduce heat and add the brown sugar, vanilla and cinnamon. Cook, stirring, about 2 minutes.
  • Scoop into bowls and top with vanilla ice cream.
