A bacon butty is a sandwich from Britain that is made with bacon, butter and HP sauce (British brown sauce) on white sandwich bread or hamburger buns. Nope, there is nothing gourmet about this sandwich recipe – and you wouldn't serve it during afternoon tea – but it is super tasty.

If you don't want to buy HP sauce, you can substitute steak sauce. Don't kick the BLT to the curb, but this fun bacon sandwich recipe is a new idea for sandwich night.

Cuisine: British
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 20 to 25 minutes
Total Time: 25 to 30 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 4 slices white bread or 2 hamburger buns, toasted
  • butter
  • HP sauce, to taste (you can substitute steak sauce)

Here's how to make it:

  1. Put the bacon onto a broiler pan or wire baking rack in a single layer. Bake in a preheated 400-degree F oven until bacon is cooked, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove to papers towels.
  2. Spread the toasted bread or buns generously with butter. Top with bacon slices. Add desired amount of HP sauce or steak sauce.
