Who doesn't love a fish fry – or a fried fish dinner? Nothing fancy here, just a simple batter and a few minutes in hot oil. Serve with homemade tartar saucecole slaw and french fries

You'll need:

  • 1 pound fish fillets
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 buttermilk or milk
  • 1/2 cup flourcornmeal or a combination of both
  • 1 cup canola oil

Here’s how to make it:

  1. Combine the egg and milk in a bowl. Pour the flour onto a plate.
  2. Season the fish with salt and pepper. Dip the fillets into the egg mixture and then into the flour.
  3. Heat the oil in a skillet. Add the fish and cook over medium-high heat until cooked through and golden brown, about 6 minutes. Serve with tartar sauce.
