Crispy brussels sprouts are on of my favorite things to order as a side dish when we go out to dinner. I've talked to several chefs and servers about how restaurants get those brussels sprouts soft in the middle yet crispy on the outside, and they all say the same thing: deep frying. I don't fry much at home, so bummer, right? I thought so until I watched a food cooking video from 4BettyG23. After I watched the food influencer make her family's favorite brussels sprouts recipe, I added them to the dinner menu that very night.
These delicious balsamic brussels sprouts are first boiled then quickly broiled. The result is delicious flavor bombs of goodness that explode with favor and texture in your mouth. Thank you, 4BettyG23. Here is your shopping list for this easy balsamic brussels sprouts recipe: fresh brussels sprouts (check out the health benefits of brussels sprouts), seasoned salt (she uses Kinder's The Blend), garlic powder, Cajun/Creole seasoning and balsamic glaze.
Cooking Note: While I have more varieties of Kinder's seasonings in my pantry than I actually need, The Blend is not one of them. Instead I used Lawry's Seasoned Salt.
Serve these boiled and broiled brussels sprouts as a vegetable side dish with your favorite dinners. I served mine with air fryer chicken thighs and Boursin macaroni and cheese.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 6
Ingredients
- 1 pound brussels sprouts
- seasoned salt (she used Kinder's The Blend, but I used Lawry's Seasoned Salt)
- garlic powder
- Cajun/Creole seasoning (we both used Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning)
- balsamic glaze
Here's how to make it:
- Boil the brussels sprouts in salted water until tender. (Test for tenderness by piercing the largest brussels sprout with a knife. It should easily go through.) Drain well.
- While the brussels sprouts cook, start preheating the broiler. Put the olive oil into a baking dish and pop it into the oven to heat up. (This helps the brussels sprouts crisp up even more.)
- Carefully put the well-drained brussels sprouts into the hot oil. (Be careful, they may splatter.) Season with the seasoned salt, garlic powder and Cajun seasoning. Stir. (Add as much or as little of the seasonings as you like.)
- Drizzle liberally with the balsamic glaze. Stir.
- Put the baking dish under the broiler and cook for 5 minutes. Stir. Continue to cook for another 4 to 5 minutes, or until the brussels sprouts are crispy. Serve immediately. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.
