Did I mention that I'm kind of obsessed with my new air fryer with a basket? Now instead of turning on the oven or grabbing my cast iron skillet, I find out if the ingredient can be put in the air fryer. Most of the time, the answer is yes.
This super juicy, crispy air fryer chicken thighs recipe is my latest success. The prep took minutes and the chicken cooked up quickly, and was full of flavor, dripping with juices and the skin was golden and crispy. A delicious chicken dinner!
This high-protein recipe only required six simple ingredients from my fridge, pantry and spice rack: bone-in/skin-on chicken thighs, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano and olive oil. After sprinkling on the seasonings and drizzling the thighs with a little olive oil, they were nestled in an air fryer liner and cooked for about 25 minutes. (Cooking time will vary because air fryers are different and also the size of the chicken thighs.)
This gluten-free chicken dinner is not only a good source of protein (check out the health benefits of protein), but also loaded with healthy spices. Garlic and oregano are listed as one of the seven healthiest spices to eat. Rounding out the list is cayenne, cinnamon, ginger, rosemary and turmeric.
This chicken recipe will be on repeat at my house for dinner. I served the juicy chicken thighs with a salad and fresh corn on the cob.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 22 to 25 minutes
Total Time: 27 to 30 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
Here's how to make it:
- Season the chicken breasts all over with salt and black pepper. Sprinkle the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder and dried oregano all over on both sides. Drizzle the skin side with the olive oil. (My chicken thighs were very large, so I only cooked three. There is enough seasoning for four thighs.)
- Put the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket. (I use air fryer liners to make cleanup easier.)
- Cook at 360 degrees F for 22 to 25 minutes, turning the chicken over halfway through, until the chicken is crispy, golden and cooked through. Chicken is cooked through at 165 degrees F internal temperature on a food thermometer.)
- Serve the chicken hot. Store any leftovers chicken thighs in an airtight container in the fridge.
