There's nothing like the taste of a juicy cheeseburger. If you're like me and get cheeseburger cravings every now and then, I think you're going to like this easy cheeseburger pie casserole recipe. It's a fun way to get the taste of a cheeseburger in pie form. In fact, it's kind of like a cheeseburger in every slice!
This low-sugar, high-protein dinner recipe has eight ingredients and comes together in a little more than half an hour. Because I like to add nutrition where I can (even in a cheeseburger recipe), I added fresh onions and green bell peppers (check out the health benefits of onions and the health benefits of bell peppers). There's also Greek yogurt in this recipe, which adds creaminess (along with flavor and the health benefits of Greek yogurt).
To make this creamy cheeseburger pie recipe, you'll need these simple ingredients: a ready-made pie crust, ground beef, onion, minced garlic, green bell pepper, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese and plain Greek yogurt. The fresh parsley is optional, but recommended. You sauté the vegetables with the ground beef until browned. Add the cheese and Greek yogurt, then place it all into a pie crust. Top with additional cheese then bake it until it's melted and golden.
Serve this cheesy hamburger casserole for dinner with your favorite side dishes or fresh salads. I served it with sautéed vegetables for an incredibly delicious meal (that disappeared fast)!
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 to 25 minutes (ovens vary)
Total Time: 30 to 35 minutes
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 1 frozen ready-made pie crust (regular or gluten-free)
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup onion, diced
- 1 cup green bell pepper, diced
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
- 2 tablespoons diced fresh parsley, divided (optional)
Here's how to make it:
- Remove pie crust from freezer and set aside.
- In a large skillet or sauté pan with sides, add the ground beef, onion, green pepper and garlic. Season with sea salt and black pepper, to taste, if desired. Sauté until meat is browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and drain. (I used ground beef, but you also could use ground chicken or ground turkey.)
- Stir in the Greek yogurt and half of the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Stir to combine. (I used Greek yogurt, but you also could use sour cream.)
- Spread the mixture evenly into the pie crust. (I used a gluten-free pie crust. You also could make your own pie crust.)
- Season with additional sea salt and black pepper, to taste, if desired. Evenly distribute half the parsley on top, if using. (The fresh parsley is optional but highly recommended for additional color and flavor.)
- Top with the remaining half of the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. (I used cheddar and mozzarella cheese, but you could use just cheddar or just mozzarella)
- Bake on the middle rack of an oven that's been preheated to 375 degrees F about 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with the remaining fresh parsley, if using. Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave or oven.
