Mango Madness: How to Choose a Mango & How to Cut the Tropical Summer Fruit by National Mango Board
It’s officially mango season! The National Mango Board is here to help people celebrate this summer fruit!
Here’s how to choose a mango and how to cut mangos:
Focus on feel, not color. Give mangos a gentle squeeze. A ripe mango will give slightly but an unripe mango will still be hard. Can’t find a ripe mango? Mangos continue to ripen naturally at room temperature just like avocados. To speed up the ripening process, place mangos in a paper bag, close the bag and let sit at room temperature for one to two days.
First, find the stem. The flat seed goes from stem to nose. Slice through the mango on either side of the seed. You should now have two mango halves. You can slice and dice the mango without breaking the skin, then scoop out the chunks.
