Galveston, Texas, is known as a port city for cruises, but did you also know it's a historic hot spot for early explorers, immigrant stories, hurricane and storm devastation, prohibition and even the home of the first margarita? If you're looking for a place to take your family for a fun week at the beach, consider Galveston. It has miles of sand and fun for the whole family, and you can stay in a resort or rent a house near the beach. Here are some places besides the beach to check out while you're there!

Moody Mansion

Texas Seaport Museum

Ocean Star Offshore Energy Center & Museum

Bryan Museum

Lone Star Flight Museum

Pleasure Pier

While shopping and eating in The Strand Historic District make sure you stop at La King's Confectionery and visit the 1920's soda fountain for a chocolate shake!

I live in the Houston area and have spent a lot of time on Galveston Island, Kim Kusiciel . I was actually supposed to go there tomorrow with my daughter and grandson, but he's been sick today so we're going another day. I've been to La King's. Great place! Was this your first trip there?

Ho fun @donna. It was our second trip there. We love it! Our favorite stop is the Flight Museum. The next time we go, we're going to go for a flight there. My kids favorite part of the museum was eating the Astronaut Ice Cream. ;)

My favorite shop is the Naked Mermaid. It's in the Strand District. So fun!!
