This Too Shall Pass: Hurt, Pain & Even the Happy Moments In Life Are Fleeting Motherhood
"This too shall pass."
I first heard the term in a song while attending university abroad in Italy. Hurt, heartbroken, depressed and healing, I would play that song on repeat. The main subject matter of my art that year was the phoenix, because like it, I intended to rise from the ashes of my despair and become new and so much more than I ever was before.
This too shall pass.
I have been thinking about this phrase a lot lately and even said it to my sister yesterday when she talked about her fussy babies. The difficulties they have in communicating their needs will pass. The sleepless nights she spends taking care of them will pass. The time when they need her will pass.
This too shall pass.
Even in happy moments when I am spending time with friends, family and loved ones. Times that I never want to end. Yes. That too shall pass. So make the most of it. Appreciate them. Love them with your whole heart. Don't let things go unsaid. Everything in life is temporary, even the good stuff.
This too shall pass.
I've often heard the term used by Christians. But as with all great spiritual sentiments, it can be found in most religions. The notion of impermanence is basically the core value of Buddhism. To put it simply and generally, Buddhism states that it is our need to cling to things and hold on to them much longer than we should that causes us suffering. The path to inner peace begins when you learn to let things run their natural course and learn to let things go when it's time.
Pain passes. Hurt passes. Despair passes. So experience it, feel it, then let it go. Time passes and things change, so be ever present, even in the difficult times, with the knowledge that this moment is not forever. It is just for now. Embrace your love ones, be true to your heart, live with the freedom of knowing that nothing lasts forever. No one lasts forever. So take nothing and no one for granted and don't waste a single moment clinging to what no longer serves you.
