Individual Education Plan (IEP): The Strengths of the Program Are in the Numbers! School/Education

An Individual Educational Plan is a document that should contain "observable and measureable”" goals and objectives. In order to determine if the plan is meeting its outcomes, ask the school team to show you the data. 

• Parents should be provided with IEP updates aligned to the school’s report card periods.
• The updates should reflect quantitative data derived from the goals' evaluative criteria.
• If a goal’s objectives are not reflecting progress, a revision can be requested.
• The data provided should correspond with the observable progress demonstrated by the student. 
• If it does not seem authentic, ask to see the actual data. 

An IEP is a “living” document, which should illustrate the ongoing growth of the student. Whenever student progress is in question, call an IEP meeting.
