There’s a powerful conversation to have with your children that teaches them how to be responsible for their actions and life. And you can’t start having it any too soon.

• It’s great to say, "Good job," but also say something that shows that the power is in the choosing. Add, "Good choice to use your fork."
• As he gets older: "Great choice not to hit Sam back."
• Middle school: "Good choice asking the teacher for help. See how it makes you feel good about yourself?"
• And later: "How powerful choosing the college that supports your life vision."

Model this for them by knowing that the power is in the choosing, too.
