Going Through Tough Times? Look for the Lessons & the Gifts! Parenting

My 10-year-old son had been grieving. His 92-year-old grandfather died. Although it's sad, I helped him celebrate his grandfather's vibrant life. He understood, but I think he questioned his own mortality, along with that of his parents. All very age-appropriate.

Yet there have been lessons, and gifts, too. My son said his friend, Scott, was his “servant for the day” to make him feel better, that Scott understands his sadness. The mother in me rejoiced because my son was now able to experience a more mature friendship. There are always gifts when we look for them!
