Does Your Toddler or Preschooler Stutter? Here's Why You Probably Shouldn't Worry! Parenting

Stuttering may be a typical part of early childhood language development. As children acquire new language, which happens at a rapid rate between 18 and 36 months, they are challenged to plan out all of the motor movements to communicate. If your child stutters:

  • be patient
  • maintain eye contact
  • wait until he finishes speaking (without completing sentences for him)

Most children will outgrow toddler and preschool stuttering without any interventions, but if you have concerns, speak with your pediatrician.
