I keep track of when my kids do a "good thing." Their teachers give them reward stickers and also keep track if they mess up. Being aware of their behavior helps them make better choices. After a day where I felt like I had yelled at my kids every five minutes, I decided I needed to apply the same system to myself.
- I kept a tally of every time I yelled. I was surprised.
- So I set a goal to reduce the tally in half – and soon I went an entire day with the tally at zero!
I still corrected my kids, but it was with patient, kind words – not berating or shouting. We ALL felt better!
